Tonya is by far the most confused of the members who have left Mountain Rock Church—torn between the knowledge that Melz’ actions were wrong, and the lingering doubt that he may in fact be her only ticket into heaven. Among only a handful of members not related to John and Deidra Lee, Tonya and her husband Travis became involved in the church after Travis went to sell a Kirby vacuum to Deidra Lee, and was invited to church services. Tonya’s guilt lies in the fact that she abused her children and denied them her love in the church. She says that all of her children, even her youngest son, only a baby in the church, have contemplated suicide. Even still, Tonya worries that without Melz, she may be on the road to damnation.

Kristy joined Mountain Rock Church with her sister Deidra Lee and her mother Karen. She brought with her husband Joaquin, later giving birth to their son Josiah. Kristy looked to Melz as both a father figure and a connection to God, and because of this followed his advice without question. After Joaquin began to question some of the Church’s teachings, he was excommunicated from the church and, upon Melz’s urging, Kristy divorced him.

Cult survivor- Liz was part of a new age cult that followed the “Earth changes” and crystal therapy. She has full knowledge of how the power of a cult can damage a person and those they love.

Former famous blue-grass musician and performer along with her husband, Lynn Shaw.

The two toured the country, recorded numerous records and had a popular, nationally distributed television show before Liz suffered severe health problems and after trying numerous doctors to no avail, she started seeing a homeopathic chiropractor who turned out to be a sexually abusive cult leader. She received treatment at Wellspring Retreat, and ultimately devoted her life to running the center along with Dr. Paul Martin and helping other survivors to comprehend the horrific experiences she herself understands firsthand.
